NJP has successfully established a vibrant Medical-Legal Partnership practice, partnering with healthcare providers across the state to address the social-determinants of health. MLPs improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations by identifying and addressing health-harming legal needs and removing barriers to health. NJP targets unmet health harming legal needs by providing direct legal assistance, medical provider training, and engaging in systemic advocacy. MLP assists patients and families referred by hospital or medical facility social workers or trained medical providers from partnering organizations.
NJP’s MLPs presently involve collaborations with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Harborview Medical Center, and Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Providence Health Care’s (Eastern Washington) Health and Justice Clinic, Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
Children’s Hospital, medical community champions, NJP, and legal aid and private bar supporters have also established the Washington Medical-Legal Partnership to increase the number of MLPs around the state, including a statewide coalition, and to grow institutional and private funding.
