Accounts Payable Specialist

 
The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a publicly funded not-for-profit statewide organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income people from offices throughout Washington State.
 
The Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist reports primarily to the Controller and has significant interactions with the accounting staff, the executive management team and program personnel. 
 
The position responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
  • Accounts payable preparation, coding and processing using Microsoft GP accounts payable software.
    • Payables are processed daily or weekly as needed.
    • Collect, match and attach back-up documentation to invoices.
    • Determine coding for invoices from the NJP chart of accounts.
    • Present invoices and back-up for appropriate approvals
    • Process the checks.
    • Present the checks and back-up to the designated check signers for final review and signature.
    • Mail or deliver the signed checks. 
    • Retain and file check vouchers, invoice copies and back-up.
  • Maintain vendor records and vendor files.
  • Prepare the NJP bank deposits, as needed.
  • Support the accounting department with data collection, data entry, journal entry preparation, worksheet preparation and special reporting, as needed. 
  • Cross-train as back-up for payroll processing.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 5 years of accounts payable or similar bookkeeping experience.
  • MS GP accounts payable software or comparable software system experience.
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
  • ADP Workforce Now payroll software familiarity, a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Compensation:   Salary is dependent upon experience. NJP offers an attractive benefits package, including medical, dental and disability coverage in addition to a  403(b) retirement program .
